The ISMAR workshop “Mixed Reality Entertainment & Art” has started. Jakob presented the collaborative tabletop game “Comino” which was attended by over 40 participants. Steven Zhou ZhiYing presented the first commercial available Augmented Reality product wIzQubesTM (besides Sony’s eyeToy), which you can get for 60 USD in Singapore. Actually, this games is designed for kids and allows them to create their own stories by moving physical cubes. Two cubes, with a embedded markers are tracked by a camera. In contrast to the ARToolkit, Steven tracks more marker surfaces at once which results in higher accuracy and less jittering.
Another highlight was the color changing on fabric using thermochromic ink. This work was demonstrated by James KS Teh, who is currently working at the Mixed Reality Lab of the National University of Singapore. The Japanese artist Dr. Ichi Kanaya also showed his very innovative and inspiring work, e.g. future furniture. The RGBy desk allows to illuminate an RGB-based table by putting colored paper on the surface. fuwapca suite is another project where he can illuminate furniture based on the users’ behavior.
