SLIDE’09 Call for Papers

Slide 09 Logo In conjunction with DEXA 2009 we are organizing the first International Workshop on Small and Large interactive Interfaces for Data Exploration (SLIDE). The workshop will be held during the DEXA 2009 conference in Linz, Austria, from 31 August to 4 September. In this workshop, the latest research and new paradigms of Exploring Data using alternative interface devices, including hardware and software issues, will be explored and discussed.

More information on the workshop and the call for papers can be found at the SLIDE’09 website.

Stacey D. Scott @ Media Interaction Lab

dsc_0811.JPGStacey D. Scott from the University of Waterloo visited for a week the Media Interaction Lab. During her visit, she taught the course “Interactive Environments” focusing on Collaborative Systems Design . Moreover, Stacey gave a highly interesting talk on “Collaborative Large-Screen Display Systems in Complex, Dynamic Team Environments”.

FLUX @ Medienmesse Vienna

Wohnzimmer_2012We presented FLUX at the Medienmesse in Vienna at the Wohnzimmer 2012 lounge that was initiated by the ORF Wien, ZIT and echo Medienhaus. Our partner team7 provided additional furniture for the FLUX presentation. It was a good chance to introduce FLUX to the graphics and media advertising community. We showed the flexibility and different application areas for brainstorming and presentation tasks.

NICE (Natural user Interfaces for Collaborative Environments)

studio_sketches_kuche.jpgGreat news: our proposal for the Austrian Research Center “NICE, Natural user Interfaces for Collaborative Environments”, has been accepted. For the next 3 years we will focus on novel large surfaces and new interaction techniques which are going to be embedded in our daily-life environment (e.g. living room, conference room etc.). We will primarily focus on new interaction methods and build new hardware. This research will be supported by FFG and by the following partners: AMS Engineering (Austria), Ferrari (Italy), Microsoft (Austria), Nortel (Canada, USA),  RTT (Germany), Sony DADC (Austria), Team7 (Austria), voestalpine Group-IT (Austria). Moreover, the following companies expressed their interest to support this project as well: Natural User Interface (Sweden), vodafone (Germany). If you have a passion for this topic and if you are interested in joining the team, please send an email to me.

Luis Durnwalder

Back from AVI 08

naples_01.jpgAVI08 took place last week in beautiful Naples (Italy). No piles of rubbish at all, so we could enjoy the nice city and the really interesting conference. Our paper and digital whiteboard project (Paperizer) was shown as well as the result of last year’s cooperation with MERL, a combination of pen and direct touch interaction for controlling Photoshop. Visit or updated project pages to get more information, watch the videos or download the paper and presentation slides!

Mil on YouTube

YouTubeAfter numerous comments, we have now decided to share some of our videos in this famous “YouTube” forum, we have heard so much about! You can find most of our videos on our user page! Please feel free to spread the word and (re)enjoy our work!

We are one of the Winners!

FLUX @ NORTEL Forum 2008

dsc_0014.jpgFLUX had its second performance on stage at the NORTEL Forum 2008 in Vienna. This time, we not only presented FLUX as our new research prototype, but used it to run the presentation itself. We showed some possibilities for presentations like real time sketching on slides and arranging content during the talk. The focus of the conference was on Hyperconnectivity, Unified Communications, Telepresence and Green IT.

Multipen interaction on small projective display

blade_09.jpgBigger is not always better! We would like to introduce Blade, a cutting-edge small-scale projective display with multipen interaction which can be used for desktop workspaces, presentations or information terminals alike. The lightweight display consist of a robust display surface and an independent projector and can easily be integrated in lecterns, kiosks or desks. Blade provides a flexible, lightweight and mobile solution for presentations. It can easily be manufactured in various sizes and shapes and relies only on off-the-shelf hardware. More images after the break!
